The show must go on! Hot conditions didn’t stop Jingle at the Bay on Friday, December 20th, 2019. Apollo Bay Radio’s annual public Christmas event was held on the Apollo Bay foreshore. Unfortunately Apollo Bay was experiencing 40 degree + temperatures and a power outage so we were not able to run a live broadcast, however with the assistance of a handy team of locals we were able to obtain a generator and still recorded the event for a replay on Christmas day. The resourcefulness of organisers Claire Smith, Ngaira Smith and Nat Morrow meant we still got to celebrate.
The Apollo Bay Choir, The Seasonal Singers and Ukaholics performed to name just a few. We saw some amazing local talent – young and old, some performing for the very first time.
It was a thrill to welcome Santa, spreading some Christmas cheer to the young tackas that came along, sweltering in his red suit, but still with a smile on his dial. Luckily he was able to make it – thanks to the Apollo Bay Fire Brigade and Captain Dave Howell who delivered him to the foreshore in the fire truck
It was also great to have station sponsors, Ora Bar, at the event, serving refreshing beverages keeping us all cool.
Jingle at the Bay has been running for several years and provides an alternative to traditional Christmas carols for the Apollo Bay Community. The format is open mic performances where those who register are allowed to perform up to 3 songs. The only rule is that one song must be a Christmas carol.
We look forward to seeing you all at Jingle next year for some more fun and festivity.
Ho, Ho, Ho, Ho….
